About Red 40 โ€บ

Why

FDA has no formal definition of "natural." Its long-standing informal policy says "natural" means nothing artificial or synthetic (including all color additives, regardless of source) has been added to a food that wouldn't normally be expected to be in it.

FDA status

Approved. FDA has asked companies to voluntarily phase it out by the end of 2027.
